Teddy Bear Birthday card

Hello friends

We are back with a greeting card this time.

This time we have made a small greeting card as we were running short of white card stock. We have used our first-ever digi image (from QKR Stampede) that we won in a challenge.  We have used washi tape to add some interest. We love these cupcake washi tape and we were happy that we were able to use them once again. Washi tapes are a great way to add bling to any project.

Pink Love- Quilled pendant

Hello friends

We are back this time with a quilled pendant. We made it three years ago, before we joined college. We made it using our first pre- cut strips, which was  gifted by our cousin.

If you also love quilling as much as we do, then you must check out these:

Quilled earring using beehive technique
Quilled butterfly earring
Quilled keychain

Our first encounter with quilling was when we read in a magazine about it. We had no clue about what it was all about. It had some designs of earrings and necklace. We were intrigued and our quest to learn quilling began. Initially it was just me (Subhashini) who was interested in quilling and I started looking on the net and came to know that it is a papercrafting technique, that requires few tools and strips of paper. I had no clue where to procure the materials, so I used to hand cut strips of paper from colored sheets that I could find and use safety pin or toothpick as my quilling needle. And the idea of making designs from twirling paper strips fascinated me so much that I pestered my mom to buy me a quilling kit.

As I love pink color, I thought to make to make a pink pendant for myself. After all, gifting yourself and showering yourself with love is the ultimate way to happiness and ensuring self love. Accepting oneself as is is the biggest issue faced by many of us today.  So, indulging in small acts of self care is one way to ensure inner peace and happiness. Only when you love yourself can you love others. So, go ahead and indulge in some form of self love and pamper yourself...... Celebrate YOU

Silhouette painting on popsicle sticks

Hello friends

We are back with a simple craft that is easy and fun to make.  Our love for silhouette painting started when we were in school and we had to make many paintings for our art class. Silhouette painting had a unique charm in it that attracted us towards it. (It was also fast to complete than other paintings.) We had seen some paintings done on popsicle sticks and we liked it, so thought why not give it a try.

We have to admit that making it was so much fun. You have to try it to believe it. Trying silhouette painting after so many years made us nostalgic of my school days. The best part about this painting is that you don’t have to be a artist to make it as it is just the outline of the image that you have to draw. So no excuses not to try your hands at it.

So lets get started,

Things required:
Popsicle sticks (9+2)
Acrylic paints
Paint brushes
Glue
Pencil/ Permanent marker

Method
Start by arranging nine popsicle sticks one below the other.
Then apply glue on two other popsicle sticks and stick it on the edges.
Gently press it and leave it to dry until sturdy.
Draw the design with black marker on the popsicle stick. OR If you are good at drawing, you can start painting the background, let it dry and then draw the design with pencil.
Paint the background with a color you desire, probably a lighter color, then paint with a darker color blending both the color in the middle.
After the base is dry, paint the main design with black color with a fine tip brush.
Let it dry.
And voila, your silhouette painting is ready.

Floral Shaker Card

Hello friends

Hope you are having a great weekend.
This time we tried our hands at something we had never made before-a Shaker card. It was in our to-do list for a long time and we finally made it. Yay, we are quite happy with the outcome. We spent a lot of time in figuring out how to go about it. We wanted to participate in few challenges, so combining them into a card which had all of the elements was quite challenging for us. But we overcome all those hurdles and here we are with our shaker card.

We have used a floral pattern paper as love for flowers never fails. We used some gold sequins as the shaker element. To finish it off, we used floral punches and quilled butterfly. To add oomph factor, we added some half pearls.

We are linking it to the following challenges:

Quilled Earring

Hi everyone

The one thing that all ladies have in common, across all the ages and across the continents is ........... yes, you guessed it right, it is shopping. We all love shopping, don't we, do we need reasons to shop?
What is the first thing that comes to our mind when we think about shopping? For us, the image that comes to our mind is going through the busy streets of a market or checking out different brands in a mall, trying to get the best clothes. And we don't mind spending hours choosing the best one. And now that we have bought our favorite clothes, we need accessories to complete the look. Earrings and statement neck-pieces form a big part of accessories, well atleast in our case.

Making your own earrings is the best thing one could think of ever as one can customise it to their preferences, be it color, deign or the length, especially when one can't find the right accessories to pair with the outfit.

Here's what we made to match our outfit.

A glimpse of quilled earring

We have worked out magic with strips of paper using quilling, a technique which transforms mere strips of paper into wonderful pieces of art. The design has been inspired from the net, though it is not exactly the same.

We made quite a number of earrings during the first and second year of our bachelors degree to match  with our clothes, some of which we have already posted in our blog.  We will update others in the upcoming posts.

Take a look at these quilled earrings:

Cute Owl Pen Stand

Hello crafty peeps,

Let's face it, all of us fall short of pen stands to store our color markers, pens, pencils and paint brushes. It saves us a ton of time in sorting things out and makes crafting a lot more easier and faster. Organization is a big part of time management. I guess you all would agree with us on this.

Today, we want to share a cute owl pen stand with you. This is a simple and kid friendly project. You can make it in an hour if all items are in hand. We love to make recycled crafts, and this is our latest addition to the list. We have used old CDs and even the paper used to cover CDs are reused ( it was used in our assignment).

So, without further ado, let's look at owl pen stand.

Quilled Tricycle with Flower Basket

Hello friends,

Hope you are having a great day.

We badly wanted to make a tricycle using old CDs and container for really long time but somehow we kept delaying it for some reason one of which is that we didn't find the right container for it. We had gone through an umpteen number of videos for the same all these years. When IQGC posted the colours for this month's challenge, we went through a lot of options until we settled on this.

Simple pleasures

If you love quilling, then you can check the following projects for some inspiration:

Quilled Owl keychain

Quilled wall hanging

Quilled earring

We initially thought of making the basket using tight coils but we didn't have 5mm quilling strips with us. We usually prefer using 3mm strips for the projects we have been making so far and using them to make basket would mean making a number of coils to achieve the same height that one could easily do with half the number of 5mm strips. So we had to think of plan B wherein we decided to stick beehive swirls around a paper cup and turn it into a basket. Again this time we were greeted with a challenge in the form of not having any paper cup around to be used.

Assembling the wheels

When we almost thought of dropping the idea of making the basket tricycle, we decided to make our own paper basket using weaving technique but it did not please us much so we had to think of yet another option. But this time, we were determined that nothing could stop us from making a tricycle and we were pondering over other possibilities. Then we came across quilled tendrils which we had previously seen in DT member Sini's inspiration post for one of the previous challenges. We thought of putting this technique to make basket although we were a bit skeptical in the beginning. We terribly failed in the first few attempts but we knew we were not going to give up. We tried it a couple of times until we became comfortable with this technique. And we did make one basket with it sticking it over a piece of paper and then forming a cylinder and pasting it over a circle paper as the base. You won’t understand the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment we got on completing the basket.

Having fun clicking pics (time to relax)

After we finished making the tight and loose coils, we started assembling it all together to form wheels and handle. Now came the next challenge-  gluing everything in place. It drove us crazy and took lot of time to fit perfectly in place without slipping off. We had to hold it chance by chance for some time until it began to settle. Whoa! What a relief!

Quiilled tricycle

But the moment we saw the whole project with those charming and blooming flowers, all our tension just evaporated into the air and we felt so pleased with ourselves.

Beauty in bloom

Ah! There it is.... finally

What you see now is not just the result of hours of hard work, but also hours of pondering on the perfect technique catered to our needs and within our limitations.

We are entering this Quilled Tricycle into the following challenges:
