Holi- art journal

Hello everyone,

We are back with one more mini art journal page. This time, the theme is Holi- an Indian festival.

Holi- Commonly known as FESTIVAL OF COLOURS, celebrated on full moon day of last month of Hindu lunar calendar.

Commonly celebrated by burning Kaam/Manmatha to ashes, and people play with colours in joy.
Kaam is symbolic representation of our desires and the tale around this festival says that God of destruction and God of mind Shiva burns Kaam (our desires) to ashes by meditation. Once all desires are destroyed, a new life begins which marks Chaita Yugadi, which is aligned with positive climate changes in India, end of winter and start of Spring with new leaves. So, the festival of Holi is to burn old desires and welcome new year with playing with colours.

Also, in earlier days colours made with natural pigments like turmeric, beetroot, leaves etc, the reason to nourish the skin and to prepare it for upcoming hot summer and keep away skin allergies.

Food is another vast topic related to Indian festivals, but I am sure there is some scientific reason for each preparation related to each festival.

Supplies:
Craftyscrappers Holi stamp set
CrafTangles Color mist- Soulmate and Limelight
Script stamp that was gifted
White gelly roll

Diwali Slimline Card

 Hello friends

Sharing our first Diwali card for this year!!

For those who don't know about Diwali, it is an Indian festival of lights to celebrate the return of Lord Rama after 14 years of exile by lighting earthen lamps outside their home. People celebrate by wearing new clothes, distributing sweets, visiting friends and family and bursting crackers 💥

We have tried to depict the typical Diwali night with the sky filled with fireworks  and lanterns outside house.

Though we don't burst crackers anymore, we couldn't resist adding this lil boy enjoy his Diwali with crackers onto our card. Combining all these elements would definitely call for a Slimline Card size! So, here we are....

We did ink blending for the background using Craftyscappers dye ink pads. The boy image was stamped, watercolored and fussy cut. The Ranganjali Lantern Die was cut out from Gold mirror cardstock. To give the effect of glowing light from lanterns, we did some ink blending on vellum using Yellow ink and pasted it behind the die cut. The sentiment was heat embossed on vellum using Black embossing powder.

We are happy with the outcome!

Mini Art journal Series- 1

Hello friends
We are sharing a new series called Mini Art journal Series. We are excited to share the first post of the series.

Those of you who know us or have seen our older posts know that we love to recycle and reuse stuffs. So, this art journal is also one such project. We have used an old mini diary as the base for the art journal. This was used to note the expenditures during our hostel days. We are so happy to put it into good use.

Let's dive into today's post.
We have a tutorial for you.

Materials required:
Mini diary/ Art journal
White gesso ( we used DIY gesso)
Paints - any type (Spray paints, watercolor)
Glue/ fevicol
Any stamp or image
Black cardstock
Black marker
White gelly Roll pen
Stencil
Dye ink pads ( you can use any coloring medium)
Blending foam
Scissors

Tutorial
1. Start by sticking together 3 papers. This will give some thickness and the paper will be able to handle the paints.
2. Repeat the first step with entire diary. Let it dry.
3. Apply gesso over the page and let it dry.
4. Apply watercolors or spray paints over the base. Choose 2-3 colors of choice.
5. Using a stencil, apply dye inks over the base.
6. Color your stamped image. We used dye ink pads to color the feathers.
7. Using black marker, doodle any design on the feathers. Fussy cut the image.
8. Write a inspirational quote with white gelly Roll on black cardstock. Cut them into strips.
9. Now comes the final and fun part, that is assembling. Place the image and quote over the base and see to your liking. Now paste them using glue.
Ta da, your mini art journal is ready.

Hope you enjoyed our tutorial and will give it a try.

Floral Bunch

Hello friends

Sharing a floral card.
We have made this card inspired by the current sketch at MFT. The background is stencilled by masking the panel using washi tape and ink blending with Craftyscrappers dye ink pad- Artic and Peacock. We used vellum to mute the background.

Floral bunch stamp set is by Mudra, which we colored last year during Kathy Rac's coloring challenge. Finally, we made it into a card. The sentiment is from a stamp set by Altenew. The golden strip is a snippet. Finished off with sequins by Mudra.
