Holi- art journal

Hello everyone,

We are back with one more mini art journal page. This time, the theme is Holi- an Indian festival.

Holi- Commonly known as FESTIVAL OF COLOURS, celebrated on full moon day of last month of Hindu lunar calendar.

Commonly celebrated by burning Kaam/Manmatha to ashes, and people play with colours in joy.
Kaam is symbolic representation of our desires and the tale around this festival says that God of destruction and God of mind Shiva burns Kaam (our desires) to ashes by meditation. Once all desires are destroyed, a new life begins which marks Chaita Yugadi, which is aligned with positive climate changes in India, end of winter and start of Spring with new leaves. So, the festival of Holi is to burn old desires and welcome new year with playing with colours.

Also, in earlier days colours made with natural pigments like turmeric, beetroot, leaves etc, the reason to nourish the skin and to prepare it for upcoming hot summer and keep away skin allergies.

Food is another vast topic related to Indian festivals, but I am sure there is some scientific reason for each preparation related to each festival.
